What Is Morgellons Disease? Signs, Symptoms, and Treatments - Natural Ginesis

Parasite on a leaf.

Over the course of history, medicine has evolved, and conditions once attributed to mental illness or eerie phenomena are discovered to be rooted in reality. One condition whose existence has long been questioned is Morgellons disease. With limited historical documentation, Morgellons disease (MD) wasn’t written about in medical literature in the United States until 2002, though there are likely cases from decades and centuries past that weren’t believed. More recently, it has been the subject of increasing research.

What to Know About Morgellons Disease

What Triggers Morgellons Disease?

Morgellons disease is a skin condition presenting as the sensation of something crawling under the skin or causing a stinging feeling. It’s often described as being enough to completely derail someone’s life due to the discomfort, distraction, and misery it causes. Some believe Morgellons disease to be caused by filaments in the skin that grow due to spirochetal infection. This infection causes the body to overproduce filaments made of keratin and collagen at a microscopic level, causing the very real sensation of something under the skin, even though it can’t be seen with the naked eye. Conversely, a study by the CDC in 2012 leaned toward the fibers simply existing as part of the transfer from clothing to skin when a person scratched or rubbed an affected area of the skin. Research continues to investigate the different reasons behind MD and similar conditions, but the majority of studies lean toward a vector-related condition.

What Are Three Symptoms of Morgellons Disease?

The most characteristic symptom of MD is the intense sensation of things crawling under the skin, itching, and biting even when nothing appears to be there. This is often constant throughout the day. Another sign would be slowly healing ulcers of the skin with filaments that can be seen under strong magnification. Since the fibers aren’t visible without equipment, it took years for the possible link to be discovered. A person with MD may also experience fatigue, impaired thoughts, short-term memory loss, or depression. Some may have physical soreness or lack of energy, making it difficult to accomplish daily tasks. Any or all of these symptoms can have a profound impact on quality of life.

How Do You Get Morgellons Disease?

There is not a strong consensus on how exactly Morgellons disease occurs. There is some thought that it’s related to an infectious agent, though there is yet to be a specific one linked. Some believe that it has similar causation as Lyme disease. In a study by Fesler et al. in 2018, all MD patients within a larger group being studied were seropositive for B. burgdorfei infection, also believed to cause Lyme disease, and more than 77% had a tick-borne infection as well. Since research has only really happened in the past couple of decades, and the majority of possible cases are dismissed by physicians, there is not a large body of evidence to provide a clear answer at this point.

What Is the Treatment for Morgellons Disease?

Treatment for MD varies widely based on the person and what the suspected cause is. In cases where tick-borne illness is the possible cause, there has been use of the medication known as doxycycline. In cases believed to be experienced without an actual physical cause, medications for anxiety and calmness have been used. A study from 2018 by Feng et al. demonstrated strong activity against B. burgdorferi by several different essential oils. Among the oils used were garlic, myrrh, thyme, cinnamon, allspice, and cumin. Researchers felt these results were positive and planned to conduct additional research in the near future to better investigate these effects.

Morgellons disease treatment should include eliminating the source of the illness if it is pest-related. Maintaining a clean home and eliminating pests that could carry illness-causing pathogens or irritate the skin may go a long way to preventing or addressing these conditions. Using all-natural cleaning products such as Kleen Green help manage the bug population in non-toxic ways that won’t have side effects on you or your loved ones the way a traditional cleaner or bug killer does. Klean Green uses enzymes that affect the exoskeleton of ticks and other pests, targeting a component humans don’t have and avoiding any negative impacts on our bodies. By effectively eliminating ticks, you reduce the chance of a tick-borne condition.

As previously mentioned, some essential oils have been studied for their possible role in treating the signs and symptoms of MD. Essential oils that are 100% pure, all-natural products like the ones from Natural Ginesis have many possible benefits for addressing the common signs and symptoms of MD. Oils such as clove and oregano essential oil are some of the ones included in the research by Feng et al. as having an impact. Our Toxic Disease Starter Kit includes several products to help benefit those who suffer from MD or Lyme.

There are still many who ask, “Is Morgellons disease real?” This is why ongoing research continues. Many possible cases were not thoroughly investigated, as tissue samples were never examined or the patient was dismissed as having a mental illness. While the exact cause of the condition may not be known, it’s important to be vigilant against tick-borne illness and other pathogens that could negatively impact our health. Using safe, all-natural products in the home helps to create an environment in which you and your family will feel comfortable. All Natural Ginesis products are made with the safety and well-being of all in mind.
